Three Orioles finished in the top six on Tuesday, as the Augusta golf team took first at the AVCTL III meet for the third consecutive year.

Augusta finished with a team score of 358, just one ahead of runner-up Buhler. McPherson finished third with 373, followed by El Dorado with 387.

Drew Hess shot a 85 to finish as the league runner-up. Martin Nuessen finished three strokes behind Hess to take third for the Orioles. Trevor Grey shot a 91 to finish sixth.

Augusta head golf coach Merek Holtzinger was named AVCTL III coach of the year.

"This is our third league title in a row, but this one means a lot,” said Holtzinger.

“We've struggled this year with performance, injuries, and weather. These kids got it together for the biggest tournament of the year to this point. I couldn't be any more proud. They battled through some rough patches Tuesday, but showed perseverance, and came out on top. As a coach, I can't ask for anything more than that. Three in a row is sure nice, but we plan on adding a fourth next year."

The Orioles will be in action again on Monday, May 14 at the 4A regional tournament at the Wellington Golf Club.
