Andover Central met Arkansas City in the 4A-I third-place game in Salina. The two teams had met less than a month before, with the contest being decided by three points as Arkansas City won 59-56.
Andover Central’s attempt at revenge fell just short as Arkansas City knocked down a buzzer-beater to win 57-55.
After a low-scoring first quarter, both teams were tied at 9. Central was able to take a slight advantage going into halftime up 24-22. Both teams traded baskets but neither was able to pull away from the other as Arkansas City had possession of the ball in the closing seconds and the game tied at 55. Hunter O’Toole knocked down a floater for the Bulldogs as time expired to give Arkansas City a third-place finish in class 4A-I.
Andover Central was led by Braden Belt, who knocked down five threes to finish with 18. Xavier Bell was also in double figures with 14 points. Easton Leedom finished with eight, and Shomari Parnell added seven.
Next season Andover Cental will return four out of their five starters from the 2017-18 season, three of which were selected All-League in the AVCTL II.
