El Dorado opened their home tournament on Thursday night with a 62-35 loss to the No. 2 ranked (5A) Mill Valley Jaguars. The Wildcats last game was almost two weeks ago, as they beat Mulvane for their first win of the season back on Jan. 12. Mill Valley featured two starters that stood over 6 feet tall, while the Wildcats tallest starter was 5’ 6”.
The Jaguars won the opening tip and scored the first five points of the game. Kelsi McLaren scored the first basket of the game for the Wildcats, and Channing Kimble followed with another basket to make it 7-4, but Mill Valley took control from there and went on to lead 19-9 at the end of the first quarter. Offensive rebounds hurt the Wildcats as Mill Valley clearly had an advantage on the boards.
Kallie Hutchinson hit a 10-footer at the buzzer for the Wildcats, who trailed 14-35 going into the locker room.
El Dorado knocked down six of eight free throw attempts in the third quarter as the Wildcats scored 10 points, but Mill Valley continued to increase their lead in the third quarter and maintained a comfortable lead until the final buzzer sounded.
El Dorado freshman Madi Michaelis led the team with seven points. Mallory Parsons, Kelsi McLaren, Katie Fox, and Hailey Eaton each scored five points in the loss.
