The El Dorado girls basketball team was finally able to get their first win of the season Friday night at home against Mulvane. With a 34-22 win, the Wildcats showed many signs of improvement as they looked like a different team from when they started the season.
The opening quarter was a defensive battle as neither team was able to get on the board in the first 4 minutes, and 52 seconds. Madi Michaelis scored the first basket of the game with just over three minutes left in the quarter. Mulvane led 7-6 heading into the second quarter, before El Dorado took control of the game. The Wildcats scored 12 second quarter points, while only allowing Mulvane to score four. El Dorado went into the locker room with an 18-11 lead.
The Wildcats continued to play well in the second half, as the Wildcat defense held Mulvane scoreless for the first three minutes of the second half. Mallory Parsons’ six third-quarter points helped El Dorado maintain a lead going into the final quarter as the Wildcats led 27-18 going into the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats allowed just four points again in the fourth quarter as Mulvane went two-for-eight from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, and El Dorado took their time on offense and was able to handle Mulvane’s defensive pressure in the final minutes.
El Dorado freshman Madi Michaelis led the team with 14 points. Sophomore Mallory Parsons added nine.
El Dorado will host the 2018 Lady Cat Classic on Jan. 25-27 with the opponent to be determined. Seeding will take place on Thursday, Jan. 2018. The other teams participating are Augusta, Campus, Circle, Gardner-Edgerton, Maize South, Mill Valley, and Wichita East.
