The Andover Central Girls won by single digits for the first time all season on Tuesday night with a 56-47 win on the road at Valley Center.
After going scoreless in the first couple minutes, the Jaguars put together a solid first quarter. Ryann Stearns scored 10 in the opening quarter to help give Central a 17-15 lead after one quarter.
The Jaguars stepped up the defense in the second quarter, allowing the Hornets to score just eight points. Central went into halftime leading 29-23.
Valley Center remained within striking distance in the third quarter, and made it a one-score game in the final quarter. The Jaguars kept their composure in the final minutes and were able to maintain a lead in the final minutes. Central knocked down eight free throws on ten attempts down the stretch to keep Valley Center out of reach as the Jaguars were able to finish with a 56-47 road win.Ryann Sterns continued her solid senior season with 23 points to lead Central. Bailey Wilborn added 11. Ashtyn Brown was also in double figures with 10 points.
Central improves to 6-1 with the win and will take on Goddard-Eisenhower at home at 6:30 P.M. on Friday, Jan. 12.
