Bluestem entered the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game with a 42-22 lead. Eureka scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to make it close, but Bluestem was able to hang on for the 42-36 victory on the road, while breaking five school records along the way.
Coy Moran had a monster night for the Lions at quarterback as he recorded five total touchdowns. Moran put up 328 passing yards as well as 158 on the ground. On defense, Moran finished with 15 tackled and two forced fumbles.
Moran’s 328 yards through the air is a new school record.
Hunter Clift also broke a 47-year-old school record with 179 yards receiving.
98 of those yards came on one play as Moran found Clift for a 98-yard touchdown pass, which broke the school record for longest pass play in Bluestem history.
The Lions’ offense broke records for team rushing yards as well as Hunter Clift, Blake Bevan, and Coy Moran combined for 321 yards on the ground.
The Lions piled up 649 yards of total offense in the win, which also broke a school record.
Bluestem will look to get above .500 for the first time this season as they host Fredonia on Friday night, with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM.
