Circle’s volleyball squad faced some stiff competition at the Ark City Invitational this past Saturday. The Thunderbirds went 3-2 on the day and took fifth place overall.

The T-birds started their day with a tough 19-25, 11-25 loss to Goddard, a powerhouse team that’s one of the best in the state. Circle bounced back with two straight wins by beating Mulvane (25-15, 25-19), then Wichita South (25-13, 25-20).

In a marquee match-up, the T-birds faced nemesis Andover Central, a team that has ended Circle’s season in recent years at sub-state. The Jaguars edged the T-birds this time around with a 25-17, 27-25 win.

Circle won its final match of the day against Belle Plaine (25-21, 25-21). The T-birds return to action tonight at McPherson.
