Augusta’s boys soccer team had the pleasure of opening its season against an Andover Central Jaguars squad that took third place at State last year and brought nearly everyone back from that team.
The Jaguars, who already had a game under their belt after beating Winfield 5-0 Monday evening on the road, needed only 50 seconds to assert themselves as they took a quick 1-0 lead. They blitzed the Orioles all match long on way to a 10-0 shutout win to end it with nearly 15 minutes still to play in the second half.
Colton Trowbridge, a senior, scored that opening goal. Bryce Fimreite scored the second goal 8:29 into the match, then dished on a free kick that led to a sweet one-time header by Jackson Lewellan. The play gave the Jaguars a 3-0 lead.
Lewellan scored again to make 4-0 after he shook a couple Oriole defenders 1-on-1 and scored an unassisted goal. Lewellan capped his day with a hat trick just a couple minutes into the second half.
Seniors Jacob Cromly, Nolan Crawford and Jake Patch, as well as sophomore Leyton Harper, all added one goal apiece for the Jaguars.
For Augusta, the Orioles started freshmen Wyatt Pankratz, Daniel Doell, Braydon Wilcox and Anthony Orocio, as well as sophomores Michael Ridder, Cole Brown and Tommy Pittman. It’s not a stretch to think that the Jaguars, who have 11 seniors on their roster to Augusta’s zero, would have a distinct advantage coming into the match.
Augusta looks to get its first win of the season in its road opener at Buhler Thursday.
