The 2017 Wildcats will feature six varsity returners and five new players from a team that set a school record for wins in a season with 26 a season ago. The Wildcats also finished with a winning season for the second time in school history.

“Our biggest improvement will be adjusting to new players in the back row. We have a completely new lineup for the back row and no returning libero so it'll be a fun challenge to see who steps up for that role.” said head coach Chelsea Helena. “Our strengths would be our returning seniors and our all league setter Sydney Scanlon is returning to help speed up our offense.”

Helena expects Scanlon and Sophomore Lexee Hughey to play large roles in the success of the team this season.

“Both bring depth to the team and are go-to players in stressful situations.”

Team chemistry can be difficult with new players, and Helena is looking forward to the test of finding out which players work well together.

The Wildcats have been improving this summer by facing some tougher competition in their summer league games.

“We entered in to a lot of leagues and summer camps this summer. We went to Wichita for a summer league which really helped because we are playing 4A,5A, and even 6A teams which is good for experience.”

The Wildcats will travel to Winfield to open their season on Saturday, Aug. 26.
