The Arc of Butler Blazers had a strong tournament as they participated in the State Special Olympics Softball and Golf tournaments at the end of July.
The Golf tournament was held Friday, July 28 in Wichita at Sierra Hills Golf Course. This was the first year for The Arc to participate in Unified Golf. Arc of Butler County Board President Iain Milmine was the head coach for this new team. Each Special Olympics athlete is paired up with a volunteer golf partner, and alternate shots are taken. There were 12 athletes that participated with eight competing in the State Golf Tournament. The team received two gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals.
The Softball tournament was held Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30 in Wichita at TRYC. The Arc of Butler had three teams that competed in this tournament. The Masters team, coached by Rick and Jill Jenkins and Jeremy and Sara Burton received “first ever” gold medals. The Senior team, coached by Justin Moore, received bronze medals, and the Junior team, coached by CC Cordova, received silver medals.
Upcoming sports for the Arc of Butler are Soccer, beginning Monday, August 14 in Rose Hill, and bowling, beginning Wednesday, August 30 in Wichita or Sunday, Sept. 10 in El Dorado. Athletes must be 8 years old to participate.
