It was a pretty eventful summer for the Augusta wrestling program, though that’s nothing new for coach Brandon Terry and his Orioles.

Sunday open rooms are wrapped up and the kids are finished with camps. This year’s University of Nebraska-Kearney trip was fairly productive. A total of 15 Orioles competed among more than 300 wrestlers from several different states. Augusta finished a respectable 5-4 in duals. John George led the Orioles with a perfect 10-0 record and was voted to win the prestigious Legitimate Tough Guy award. Cole Edwards also had an impressive camp after finishing 9-1, with his only loss coming against a heavyweight.

The Orioles also competed at the Northeastern Oklahoma University camp this summer. 15 Orioles were at that camp, as well, as were about 250 wrestlers from Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. Brendon Griffin had a strong camp with a 7-1 record. Avin George went 8-3, John George went 7-4, Grady Fox was 6-2 and Dominik Ketchum and Anderson both were 5-4.

There’s still one big event planned this summer. The Orioles are hosting the Tony Purler Hand Fight & Scrambling clinic this weekend, July 29 and July 30. Registration is open at tonypurler.com.
