Topeka, KS -- The Kansas Volleyball Association held its 32nd annual All Star Match on June 3 at Washburn University in Topeka. The Red Team defeated the Blue Team in five games by the scores of 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13, 15-5.
The Red Team was led by Jazz Sweet of Shawnee Heights High School with 21 kills. Kelsey Gordon of Emporia High School and Nia Bishop of Derby High School also contributed 8 kills each. Ally Offerdahl of Shawnee Mission East High School led the Red Team in assists with 35. The Red Team was led in digs by Jadan Heinz of Rose Hill High School with 16. Gordon also led in blocks with 7 total blocks. Bishop and Jade Askren each contributed 2 service aces.
Leading the Blue Team in kills was Emily Regier of Newton High School and Payton Meader of Waverly High School with 9 each. Payton Gannaway of Free State High School also added 8 kills. Taryn Burks of Leavenworth High School led the Blue Team in assists with 13, while Camryn Blanton of Shawnee Mission West High School contributed 10 assists. The Blue Team was led by Lexie Longbine of Emporia High School with 26 digs and Madison Woody of Douglass High School chipped in with 9 digs. Rachel Dossett of McPherson High School and Regier led the Blue Team in blocks with 2 total blocks each. Ryann Flax led the service effort with 3 aces.
The K.V.A. also presented four of its annual awards at the conclusion of the match. Jazz Sweet of Shawnee Heights High School received the Joan Lundstrom Wells Award of Excellence. The Flo Hyman Scholarship was awarded to Kelsey Gordon of Emporia High School. Payton Meader of Waverly High School received the Judy Bellomo Most Inspirational Award. The Don Bechard Scholarship was awarded to Lexie Longbine of Emporia High School.
