Dakota Clift didn't allow a single run as the Bluestem Lions baseball team defeated Eureka 12-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday, April 17. Clift allowed just two hits and threw a complete six-inning game while striking out twelve batters. A late offensive explosion helped secure the victory thanks to eight runs in the sixth inning. Dakota Clift led the Lions with two hits along with his stellar pitching performance. “Dakota Clift continues to give us solid outings every time we send him out.” Said Lions coach Daniel Scribner. “When you are pitching well you give your team a chance to win every night.”

Bluestem defeated Eureka 5-4 in game two after taking the lead late in the game. Bluestem was down 4-1 going into the sixth inning. The Lions were able cut the Eureka lead to one run in the sixth. With two outs in the final inning, Coy Moran singled and was then hit home on a gap shot from Tab Beavers. Jake Lanier then drove in Beavers to take a one-run lead. Blake Bevan came in to finish off the game on the mound. Bevan and Bevers both had seven strikeouts for the Lions. Coy Moran and Tab Beavers both had four quality at-bats for Bluestem in game two. “We did not pitch as well as we had been in game two.” said Scriber. “I really liked how we continued to battle even when things were not going our way. Several players came up with great at-bats late to give us a chance, and we never quit trying.”
