El Dorado softball traveled to Mulvane on Monday, April 17. The Wildcats won a defensive battle in game one by a score of 4-3, before losing the second game 12-8.
In game one, neither team could get ahead to a comfortable lead as both teams scored one run in the opening inning. Mulvane took the lead in the second inning, but El Dorado responded in the top of the third, plating two runs and giving El Dorado the 3-2 lead. Mulvane knotted it up at three in the bottom of the inning. El Dorado scored just one run for the remainder of the game, but that was enough to hold off Mulvane, as neither team could score in the final three innings of game one, and El Dorado narrowly escaped with a win. Jillian McCaig pitched all seven innings for El Dorado, striking out five batters. Katie Fox, Mikala Ruff, and Sydney Harper each had two hits for the Wildcats in game one.
Game two contained much more offense, as the two squads combined for 20 runs scored. Mulvane jumped ahead to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, but El Dorado refused to go away quietly, scoring two runs in the second and three more in the third to tie the game at five as Katie Fox reached home on an error, and then Sydney Harper drove in two more runs. Mulvane went up 6-5 in the bottom of the third before El Dorado tied it up again the top of the fifth. Mulvane’s defense was too much for the Wildcats in the final two innings however, as Mulvane scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and the bottom of the sixth to double their run total and go up 12-6. El Dorado was only able to add two in the final inning as the Wildcats came up short in game two. Katie Fox led the Wildcats with three hits on game two. Fox also pitched five innings for the Wildcats, as Jillian McCaig pitched the final inning.
El Dorado’s next doubleheader will be played in Winfield on Thursday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m. as the Wildcats will work to improve their 3-5 record.
