The Andover Trojans girls’ soccer team improved to 6-1 on the season as McPherson traveled to Andover District Stadium on Thursday evening. Both teams came into the matchup with one loss. The teams battled in the pouring rain In the first half until a lightning strike forced the officials to delay the game. Hannah Becker opened the scoring for the Trojans with an unassisted goal to give Andover the first-half lead.
In the second half, McPherson tied it up with an unassisted goal from Aislinn Hughes, the 2016 AVCTL Division III MVP. Hannah Becker assisted Morgan Short as the Trojans regained the lead and were able to hold off McPhersons relentless attack.
McPherson fired off more than twice as many shots as Andover, but were only to find the back of the net once. McPherson finished with 15 shots as Andover only had seven. Andover’s Elizabeth Aikman had six saves in goal for the Trojans, and McPherson’s Riley Hett finished with four.
The Trojans’ next game is Tuesday, April 18 at Ark City High School.
