Last week, The El Dorado softball team reached .500 after sweeping Buhler by scores of 17-5 and 9-2. On Monday, the Wildcats faced a much tougher test. Rose Hill was team that El Dorado could have swept, but instead lost two close games. In game one, the Rockets scored nine runs and held the Wildcats to six.
In game two, Katie Fox started on the mound for El Dorado. Rose Hill jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning.
El Dorado’s first run also came in the first inning as Marissa Eaton doubled, and Mikala Ruff hit her home with another double to right field.
Katie Fox retired the side in order in the second inning to keep the Wildcats within one. El Dorado could not manage a hit in the bottom of the second. The Rockets scored two more in the third, but the Wildcats remained calm and exploded for a huge third inning offensively. the five-run inning gave the Wildcats their first lead of the day. El Dorado recorded four hits in the inning, and used a Rose Hill error to their advantage.
Rose Hill was able to tie the game in the fifth, and the contest remained tied 7-7 going into the seventh inning. A double from a Rose Hill batter scored two in the top of the seventh, and El Dorado was not able to overcome the deficit in the final inning, losing 9-7 and falling to 2-4 on the season. El Dorado’s next games will be at Mulvane on Monday, April 17.
