Francis Sowers, Jr., 78, passed away on Oct. 31, 2018

Francis “F.W.” W. Sowers, Jr., 78, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
His family will gather with friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home.  Funeral service led by Pastor Kelly Benton  will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Leon Christian Church.  Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery.
Francis was born on Nov. 14, 1939 in Leon, the son of Francis W. and Ruby (Cousins) Sowers,Sr.  He was a 1957 graduate of Leon High School and attended Butler County Junior College.  He married his high school sweetheart,  Juanita Faye Westervelt on Aug. 6, 1960 at the Leon Methodist Church.   Francis retired in 1997 from the Texaco refinery in El Dorado.  He also kept a small herd of cattle on his farm near Leon and for many years operated Sowers Hay Hauling.  Francis served his community as the Bloomington Township Trustee, and as a Deacon of the Leon Christian Church.  In recent years he enjoyed “Facebooking”, playing cards, and dinner’s out with friends.  
His greatest joy was his family which includes: his children, Teri (Bruce) Lyon of Wichita, Lisa (Dave) Karase of Raymore, Mo.,Kenny (Cristi) Sowers of El Dorado, Christine Stutts of San Antonio, Texas and honorary son Mike (Dena) Neal;  grandchildren, David, Stephanie, Amanda, Jaimie, Kelsi, Khloe’, Carson, Kalub, Kincade and Jacob; eight great grandchildren; sister, Peggy Brock of Huntsville, Texas; brother, Ray Dean Sowers of Chelsea, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.  
  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Juanita; brother Robert; and son-in-law Darrell Stutts.
