John C. Montgomery, 90, passed away on Jan. 27, 2018

 John C. Montgomery, 90, of Augusta, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Augusta.
John was born on May 21, 1927, to Vern Montgomery and Nettie Scott Montgomery in Corsicana, Texas.  He was a graduate of Mildred High School.  At 17, he joined the Merchant Marines and the Army Transportation Corps.  He served in World War II for four years.  After being discharged, he came to Augusta to visit family, met and married Patricia Thompson. They were proud parents of three daughters, Debby, Sue, and Jaylyn.  They enjoyed 39 years together.
John was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shriners, and Eastern Star.  He was a member of the First Christian Church of El Dorado and a past president of the El Dorado Senior Center.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved talking about and seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved to fish, travel and reminisce about his military service.  He was a proud veteran.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Pat; grandson, Tony Brooks; and daughter, Jaylyn Nesler.
His survivors include: daughters, Debby (Bill Hunkapillar) and Sue (Johnny Totty); sister, Helen Burch; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews.
