Darrel K. Shipman, 91, passed away on Dec. 5, 2017

Darrel’s life began on Jan. 2, 1926 in Beaumont, Kan., the   son of Orris Roland and Audine Lavanch (Arnold) Shipman.  Darrel was a graduate of Cedar Point High School.  He served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II in Europe.  Darrel was united in marriage to Sheila Harsh on June 7, 1947 in El Dorado.  He went to work for Vickers Refinery continuing on with Skelly Oil, Getty Oil and retiring from Texaco as a foreman.  Darrel was active for years in his church in Potwin and later El Dorado United Methodist Church.  Darrel enjoyed his vegetable garden and keeping up on the lives of his children and grandchildren.
  His loving family includes: his children, Debi (Bill) Resnik of Austin, Texas, Danny (Linda) Shipman of El Dorado, Susie Smith of Olathe, and Jack ( Shelley) Shipman of El Dorado; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; daughter in law, Irene Wirt of Hastings;  siblings, Joy (Bill) Page, Carolyn (Edmond) Spencer and Ronnie (Mary) Shipman;  and several nieces and nephews.  
Darrel passed away on Dec. 5, 2017 in El Dorado.  
He was preceded in death by: his parents;  wife, Sheila; son, Bob; son in law,  Jerry Smith; grandson, Jason Shipman; great-grandson, Cody Shipman; three brothers and three sisters.
Darrel’s family will gather with friends from 10 to 11 a.m., with funeral at 11 a.m. led by Rev. Andrew Conrad, all on Monday, at First United Methodist Church, El Dorado.  Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park with military honors.
