Melvin Eugene Green, 97, passed away on Oct. 2, 2017

Melvin Eugene Green, 97, of Augusta, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 in Augusta.  
Visitation 1 - 2  p.m.  with service following at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, both at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Augusta.
Eugene was born in rural Augusta, on June 25, 1920, to the late Willie Orvia  (Forbes)  and Richard Green. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Later, he was a meat cutter at Safeway, delivered bread for Wholsom and Ark Company, and retired as a meat cutter at the Commissary at McConnell Air Force Base. Eugene was a member of the Augusta Church of Nazarene, a former member of Kiwanis, and enjoyed serving Meals on Wheels.  On June 1, 1941  he married Dorothy Lucille (LaFevre) at the Augusta Nazarene Church. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Marion Green; sister, Yvonne Saville; son in law, Sam Keller.
He is survived by: daughters, Linda Keller of Lyons, Kan.  and Carla Spillman and husband Luther of Houston, Texas; grandchildren,, Tina Wilkinson and husband David, Tonya Spillman, Lori Tate and husband Randy; great grandchild, Nathan Alan Tate; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
