Ingrid L Schwartzkopf, lived a life of strength and commitment ending September 9th, 2017 at her age of 80.

Born on April 11, 1937 in Wetzlar, Germany to Friedrich and Elisabeth Schafer.. She had lived her early life in war-torn Germany - a little girl in a land of death and fear.

She met and married an American GI and then within months of their marriage suffered a tragic car wreck in the Alps. The wreck took her new husband and severely injured Ingrid. A back injury that would impact the entirety of her remaining life. The injury couldn't keep Ingrid down and pain never stopped her.

She came to America to bring her condolences to the in-laws she had never really known. She shared her strength and helped grieving parents to find comfort and learn to love this little German girl with the funny accent.

While in Lacrosse, Kansas, Ingrid was blessed to meet the love who would become her husband for the remainder of his life. Jay Schwartzkopf knew how blessed he was to have his beautiful wife. She cared for him as no one could ever hope to be cared for.

In 1962 they were blessed with their only son Ronald John Schwartzkopf. To say Ingrid doted on Ron is a great understatement. Still she and Jay gave Ron discipline as well as love, support as well as space. When Dr Spock was just beginning to influence the rest of the nation the Schwartzkopf's understood parenting and practiced it daily.

Ingrid rarely worked outside of the home but she surely worked within her home. If her natural good looks and exuberant charm weren't enough, her "extreme housekeeping" would certainly be enough to make anyone jealous.

Although she left the business to her husband Jay - you couldn't "pull the wool over her eyes" - she understood business and finance and life and shared that knowledge with those blessed to hear her advice.

She loved her church, cooking, baking, country music and taking care of others. She was an amazing mother and grandmother.

Ingrid has left us and she leaves behind her son Ron of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Kylie Schwartzkopf of Shawnee, KS and Cameron Schwartzkopf of Lawrence, KS, Brennen Hite of Katy, Texas; and a world of people blessed to know her.

Ingrid is preceded in death by her husband Jay; brother Fritz Schafer and sister Helga Niederelz.
