Alexander “Alex” Michael Buckley, 24, passed away, peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Alex died after a hard-fought battle with addiction.
A longtime resident of El Dorado, Alex was born in Butte, Montana on March 10, 1993. He is survived by his parents, Brent and Jessica Buckley; his younger brothers Nick Buckley and Zack Buckley; his paternal grandparents, Larry and Julie Buckley of Butte, Montana; his maternal grandparents, Will and June Goldberg of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and his maternal grandmother, Penny Goldberg of El Dorado. Additionally, he is survived by close family and friends across the U.S. and Europe.
Alex is a 2011 graduate of El Dorado High School. Alex joined the Kansas Army National Guard and graduated from U.S. Army Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training in 2012 at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Alex earned the military specialty of 11B (Infantryman) and was also selected to be on the tactical demonstration squad during graduation. Throughout his life, Alex pursued mixed martial arts, shooting, golf, running, hockey, cycling, bowling, movies and computer gaming. Most recently, Alex had been enjoying a job with Amazon in the Kansas City, Kansas area. All summer his head was held high, he was spending lots of time with family and friends and the world was starting to become his oyster.
Although acknowledged as a warrior with an ever-present sense of humor, he was mostly known by all for his kind and gentle heart. Alex was a friend like no other and never failed to brighten whichever room he entered.
A memorial service will be held at Carlson in El Dorado at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family urges donations be made to benefit the Oxford House concept of group homes for recovering substance abusers. Oxford Houses of Kansas.
