Opal Baker, 89, died on Aug. 10, 2017

The world lost a truly kind and generous soul when Opal Baker, 89, passed away on Aug. 10, 2017.
Private family services will be conducted and burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Born on Dec. 11, 1927, the Depression had a powerful effect on Opal, teaching her to never waste anything and to live frugally.  She married Don Baker, her husband for life, who she met in Arkansas City, where he worked for Gas Service Co., his enire life.  She loved plants and raised many exotic flowers, trees and cacti.  She was great with young children, a very talented artist, and wrote two books on her family genealogy.  As a young lady she also did some fashion modelling.  Opal was quite active in the Wichita Art Association and became well known as a painter and art teacher. One of her students became a famous professional and his works graced many magazine covers.  She travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe.  
Opal is survived by: her son Randy (Dana) Baker;  sister, June; nephews, Chris, Harold, Steve (Deb); nieces, Edie, Susan and Diane; grandchildren, Anna (Scott) Justin (Marie); great grandchildren, Andrew, Tyra, Baylor, Bentley, Magnum and Maci.  
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, and two sons Tracy and Michael.
