Barbara A. Wolf, 85, of Augusta, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017.
A memorial visitation will be held 9 - 11 a.m., Monday, July 31, 2017, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, with a memorial graveside service held after at 11:30 a.m. at Douglass Cemetery.
Born on Oct. 19, 1931 near Lamar, Mo., she was the first of Roy A. and Edith (Rule) Moss' three offspring. A child of the great depression, Barbara was no stranger to hard work. When she first moved to Augusta in the early 1960's, she worked as an insurance agency secretary during the day and cleaned hotel rooms in the evenings to support her four young children. Through the years, she was a customer service agent at a Montgomery Ward catalog store, long time optometrist's assistant, and she worked so many years at Wal-Mart - her grandchildren thought she owned the place. On April 18, 1964 Barbara married John W. Wolf, who also had four children. Through the chaos of blending two families, Barbara's unconditional love was a steadying force. She might not be happy with your behavior, but you always knew she loved you. A love of theatre, particularly Broadway musicals, led her to Augusta Community Theatre, where she acted in a number of plays over the years. An avid reader, Barbara turned her fondness for books into community service as a member of the Augusta Library Board. She was proud of her many years as a sister of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, which recognized her service with membership in the Order of the Rose. Barbara also enjoyed playing sports. She was a bowler most of her life and was always in a league and competed in many tournaments. After marrying John, she took up his favorite game, golf, and they played well into their retirement years. A woman of faith for many decades, Barbara was a member of Augusta's First Baptist Church where she and John were married.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her parents.
She is survived by: son, Patrick Jennings of Wichita; daughter, Debbie Kelley and husband Butch of Augusta; son, Mark Lee and wife Georgina of Bedford, Texas; son, Kip Lee of Manhattan, Kan.; daughter, Brenda Newberry and husband Jack of Girard, Kan.; daughter, Pam Autry and husband Leon of Wichita; daughter, Cindy McMahon and husband Tom of Edna, Kan.; son, Randy Wolf and wife Connie of Augusta; 17 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren; brother, Ronald Moss, of Biloxi, Miss.; sister, Patty Woodridge of Newkirk, Okla.
