J. LaVern "Vern" Vinson, 88, formerly of Butler County, passed away on June 19, 2017
J. LaVern “Vern” Vinson, 88, passed away on June 19, 2017, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was born on July 15, 1928 in Augusta, the oldest of four children born to Alva and Eunice Vinson.
He resided in El Dorado, where he owned Vinson Auto Rebuilders. In 1993, he moved to Colorado and bought property in Teller County, Turkey Rock Ranch Estates, and built a home, where he resided at the time of his death. He loved the peacefulness and serenity of home. Vern became President of the Turkey Rock Rec. Assn. soon after and stayed in that position for 14 years.
He was a woodcarver, good listener, problem solver and there for everyone who needed help. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would study and find a way. Everyone learned something from him. He always had a special interest in educating children and enjoyed teaching them. He was a volunteer with TPCD Teller-Park Conservation District, CACD Colorado Assn. of Conservation Districts, and Camp Rocky for a special group of teenagers, who came to Colorado to study and learn about Watershed Conservation and values. He built a Riparian trailer and travelled throughout the State of Colorado, using it as an educational tool to teach children about the importance of conserving the land, keeping the waters of Colorado clean and numerous other projects. He was President of TPCD as well as other offices and Treasurer of CACD.
He is survived by: his wife, Audrey Pegg Vinson; daughters, Debbi McGuire (John) League City Texas, and Vicki Dalton, Tulsa, Okla.; step-daughter, Stacey Self, Colorado Springs; sister, Joyce Lamure (Tom); five granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Eunice Vinson; and two sisters, Geraldine Wiebe and Shirley Karnath.
