Billie J. 'Bill' Johnson, 84, passed away on April 7, 2017

Billie J. “Bill” Johnson, 84, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
Visitation 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado.  Interment at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.  Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. that afternoon at the First United Methodist Church.
Bill was born on Oct. 30, 1932 in El Dorado, the son of Mode T. and Ruth (Lane) Johnson. Bill graduated from El Dorado High School in 1951. As a high school senior, he set a school track and field record for the 220 yard dash, which still stands today. In 1956 he graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in geology. Bill served two years (1956-1958) in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the 2nd Missile Battalion (CPL) 82nd Field Artillery. On June 20, 1959, he married Norma Beck in Pratt, Kan. Bill enjoyed his 50 year geology career in the engineering, petroleum and environmental fields. He was employed with the Kansas Department of Transportation, Star Street Ventures, and the Kansas Corporation Commission. Retiring in 2008, he remained active on the Geological Council at Kansas State University, Board of Trustees for the Kansas Oil Museum, City of El Dorado Tree Board, Master Gardeners, KSU Extension Council and many committees at First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Norma of 57 years; daughters, Amanda Frye (Charles) of Redlands, Calif., and Anna Johnson of El Dorado; brother, Mode A. Johnson of Blacksburg, Va.; 4 grandchildren, Henry, Samuel, Thomas and Sophia Rose Frye; and his canine companions, Max and Taleah.
