Monday meeting highlights

The highlight of Monday’s USD 402 Augusta Board of Education was the board offering Matt Ward the superintendent of schools position starting on July 1, 2019, upon Dr. John Black’s retirement.   Ward has accepted the position pending the contract offer.
Augusta Middle School principal Rick Rivera presented information on the Principal’s Advisory Council that is being organized at AMS.  This will enable students to have a voice at the middle school.
Other action items included:
·  The board approved a request from Mr. Hollis for a band trip to Lawrence, KC and Branson over spring break in 2020.
·    The board scheduled a special board meeting for 5  p.m. on Monday, Oct.  22 to review bids for an electrical contractor to install the baseball lights.
·  The board approved changes to #638 Interlocal Agreement.
·  The board approved the 2018-19 Board Goals.  Posters displaying those goals can be found in each school.
The three goals are: To research and begin Redesign, To improve family and community relationships, and to retain high quality staff with competitive salary and benefits.
