Superintendent Givens to retire after 12 years

It was with heavy hearts that USD490 Board of Education accepted Ms. Givens’ request to retire after twelve years of service to the district. Reflecting on her time as Superintendent, she quoted Vince Lombardi, “The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender.”
However, she understands the challenges and opportunities for the district.  “It is time for the El Dorado Public Schools to search for their next leader and bring new ideas and skills to this remarkable district, to take us to the next level.” Board Vice President, Tom Storrer, was elected to the Board of Education (BOE) the same year Sue Givens was hired and has worked alongside her, learning together.  “We haven’t always agreed,” stated Tom, “but it was fortunate that I had a Superintendent like [Givens] ... fortunate I got to work with her the whole time.” She ended her remarks to the board with a reminder, “I’ll always be part of the pride.” ###
