The Butler County Board of Commissioners opened bids for three different improvement projects.

One project is for a culvert letting. Three bids were submitted for the project. Reece Construction of Salina submitted a bid of $493,820.80. Mies Construction of Wichita submitted a bid of $447,937.50. Clayburn Construction submitted a bid of $431,669.65.

Butler County Director of Public Works/Engineer Darryl Lutz’s estimate for the project is $477,793.

Also opened were bids for 2018 Leachate Recirculation System Expansion at Butler County Landfill. Remediation Services Inc. of Independence submitted a bid of $503,382.53 for the project. Alans Excavating of Augusta bid $584,607.50 for the project. The JJ Westhoff Construction Company Inc. submitted a bid for $359,000.

The engineer’s estimate for the landfill project is $518,482.

Another bid was for milling and bituminous surfacing of Rose Hill Road through Rose Hill. APAC out of Wichita bid the project for $354,788.20. Pearson Construction LLC submitted a bid for $478,960.80. Cornejo and Sons of Wichita bid the project for $380,333.80.

The engineer’s estimate for the project is $380,625.

The county commission also:

-approved a Memorandum of Understanding wth Child Start, which handles Head Start Programs in Butler County.

-approved out of state travel for the Butler County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator/

-approved a special event and cereal malt beverage permit to Allison and Chris Locke for a concert on their property Aug. 4.

-approved an engineering agreement for $255,943.33 for an intersection project at SW Butler Road and 150th Street. The total cost of the project is projected at $5.8 million.

-discussed extending transportation services in Andover from 8 a.m to noon to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in order to accomodate Butler Community College students and seniors in Andover.

-discussed adding three full time positions for Butler County Emergency Medical Services to cut down on the amount of overtime the county is paying.

-held a work session to discuss budget.
