Dr. Nicholas Posge is joining the staff at the SBA Medical Group as Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital opens a new Podiatry Department. Dr. Larry Abraham, long-time El Dorado podiatrist, was key to bringing Dr. Posge to the community.

Dr. Posge, who is from Cincinnati, Ohio, recently completed his surgical residency at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, after receiving his undergraduate degree from Xavier University and his graduate degree from Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine.

“I am the first person in my family to have a career in medicine,” he said.

He got interested in medicine at a young age.

“When I was growing up, I was very actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America,” Dr. Posge explained. “My first experience with medicine came from the First Aid merit badge. That merit badge was one of my favorite to work on, and one of the most practical ones that was required for me. In high school, I took an elective anatomy class and knew that medicine was what I wanted to work in.”

During college, Dr. Posge shadowed a number of physicians of multiple specialties.

“When I shadowed the podiatrist, I enjoyed the variety of things they were able to do,” he said. “As a podiatrist, I am able to do a little of both medicine and surgery.

“Feet are often taken for granted, but once someone is experiencing pain it can often be very debilitating. Being able to return people to activity and relieve pain through various conservative surgical means is very rewarding.”

Dr. Posge is looking forward to joining the staff at SBA. He likes the sense of community a smaller hospital with a long history has to offer. He trained at a large hospital that was one of five hospital systems in that city. Now he hopes to help fill a need in a smaller community.

“I hope to bring a friendly personality, and individualize treatment plans for each and every patient,” he said. “My family and I hope to become active members in the community and look forward to learning what it means to be an El Doradoan.”

Dr. Posge and his wife, Katherine, along with their two children, Emmett and Elena, will be moving to El Dorado. In his spare time, Posge, enjoys reading books, going on hikes, playing guitar and woodworking.

Dr. Posge’s office will be located in the SBA Medical Clinic West Suite 105. For more information, call 316-321-3300.
