Several events celebrating the Fourth of July will be happening around the County.

El Dorado will be hosting a slew of events starting on July 3 at the El Dorado Recreation Fourth of July celebration.

The festivities begin July 3 at 6 p.m. with a wiffle ball tournament at East Park at 100 S. Woodland.

On the Fourth, the celebration begins at 9 a.m. with the Bike Gathering at the East park softball fields. The riders are encouraged to decorate their bicycles in patriotic colors.

The bike parade then begins at 9:15 a.m.

At 9:45 is the sign in for the turtle race and the check in for the cornhole tournament. Both events begin shortly after. Also at 10 a.m. to noon is a home run Derby.

At 11 a.m. is the water ballon toss. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m.

From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. will be a free swim at the El Dorado Municipal Pool at 900 N. Taylor St.

The El Dorado Broncos will begin playing at 7 p.m. at McDonald Stadium at 242-298 N .Griffith St.

Now serving 3.2 beer in the concession stand, the Broncos will host Jayhawk Baseball League rival Oklahoma City Indians.

Following the game will be the public fireworks display.

The City of Augusta will have a public fireworks display at dusk at the Augusta City Lake. The public is encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

Fireworks will also be for sale throughout the county. Different cities have different times and rules on when and where fireworks can be sold and discharged.

El Dorado Fire Lieutenant Caleb Carson gave the Gazette these safety tips for using fireworks during the holiday season.

-Never use fireworks inside, fireworks shall only be used outside.

-Never use fireworks near structures, trees or dead grass.

-Never attempt to relight a "dud".

-Never allow young children to handle fireworks without direct adult supervision.

-Never hold fireworks in your hand.

-Always keep a bucket of water nearby to soak discarded fireworks or extinguish a small fire.

-Always maintain a safe distance when lighting any fireworks.

-Only use fireworks purchased within the community they will be set off in.

-Dial 911 in case of an emergency.

No discharging of fireworks on public streets or property. Fireworks are allowed at Andover 13th Street Sports City Park at 1008 E. 13th St. from 6 p.m. June 29 to 11 p.m. July 4.
