This week's celebration
Project Search of Butler County held a celebration Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Butler Community College Welcome Center.
Project Search is an internship program administered by the Butler County Special Education Interlocal for post high school special needs individuals.
The focus of the program is to teach the students job skills and find them jobs upon graduation of the program.
In the past five years the Project Search program had 37 interns complete the program. Twenty-nine of those interns were placed into permanent positions.
This year there are three interns finishing that are expected to be employed upon completion of the program.
Eight students from four different Butler County schools are being honored Tuesday.
Cylie Draper is a Douglass High School graduate and interned for the BCC Walburn Administration, the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Dietary department and the Community Development Disability Organization of Butler county, which she is now employed by.
Simeon Christensen is an El Dorado High School graduate that interned for SBAMH environmental service, BCC Facilities in the Management-Grounds department and OPAA! Food Management Inc. for the Douglass School District.
Brie Black is an Augusta High School graduate and interned at BCC Great Western Dining, SBAMH Environmental Services and Holiday Inn Express of El Dorado.
Bethany Bliss is an Andover Central High School graduate and interned at BCC EduCare, BCC Great Western Dining and is now employed by Great Western Dining.
Josh Sutton is an Augusta High School graduate and interned at BCC Facilities in the Management and Grounds department and for the City of El Dorado Parks and Recreation.
Derrik Gearhart was an Andover Central High School graduate and interned for the BCC Athletic Training Center, BCC Facilities Management Custodial, Circle USD 375-Food Services. He is now employed by Great Western Dining.
RJ Shortt is an Andover Central High School graduate and interned at BCC Human Resources and Facilities Management-Grounds, SBAMH Material Management and the Andover YMCA.
Chelsea Draper is a Douglass High School graduate and interned at SBAMH Rehabilitation, SBAMH Medical Group Orthopedics and SBAMH Medical/Surgery. She is now employed by Lakepoint of Augusta.
The Spotlight Partner the Year is Great Western Dining.
