KDOT poster contest
Six-year-old Nora Ackermann of Andover, nine-year-old Abby Williams and 10-year-old Alex Williams of Douglass, and 11-year-old Abilgail Yocum of El Dorado are the south central Kansas winners in the 2017 Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest.
Each student received a bicycle and a helmet from the Kansas Department of Transportation and Kansas Highway Patrol at presentations at their schools.
Nora Ackermann is also a statewide poster contest winner in the 5 – 7 age category. She received a Kindle Fire tablet from the Kansas Turnpike Authority, a $50 Visa card from the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association of Kansas; $50 gift card from Wal Mart and movie passes from AAA Kansas.
A total of 1,048 kids across Kansas, ages 5 to 13, took the time to think about safety and participated in the poster art contest. Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities.
