Sixth annual community Thanksgiving Dinner
Thanksgiving means different things to different people. To most, it means gathering around the table with family and being together for a special meal.
Thanksgiving gives us a good excuse to connect with the people we care about most and to think about others.
Caring about others is at the root of the Sixth Annual Generous Hearts of Augusta Thanksgiving Day Luncheon. The event was initiated to ensure that people in the community enjoy a traditional meal on Thanksgiving as well as an opportunity to connect with others. It’s a meal to enjoy with friends, families, and neighbors.
The free community Thanksgiving meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at the Augusta Senior Center, 640 Osage.
“The Senior Center location has worked very well for us and we’re looking forward to another great Thanksgiving,” said Sue Hoefgen, event organizer.
Volunteers can help prepare the food, bake pies, serve food, and deliver meals to shut-ins and home bound residents.
Hoefgen advised that many of the same people volunteer each year and report that they wouldn’t miss the opportunity.
“They (volunteers) enjoy helping and it’s fun to get together with everyone each year,” she said.
