A burger joint has finally arrived in Towanda. Thunderbird Burgers & Ice Cream opened Thursday, August 24 at 719 E. Main St., Suite A, and it's the only burgers and ice cream place in town.
"There was a need in Towanda for a food place to serve their needs and the needs of their children, as well, in that community," Hussam Madi, owner and manager of Thunderbird, said.
The restaurant offers burgers, chicken, fries, salads and brisket. The burger patties are fresh angus beef – never frozen. The chicken is also fresh. When Thunderbird starts serving ice cream in a couple weeks, they'll have soft serve, shakes and fruit smoothies. They'll begin making deliveries, too, when the ice cream kicks off.
"We're really thinking something for the taste of all," Madi said.
Although Thunderbird is a carry-out and delivery restaurant, there's some outdoor seating with shade during the milder months. Thunderbird will continue carry-out and delivery operations in the winter, but the outdoor seating may not be offered then. Customers can call in orders at 316-536-6032, or they can order in-person.
Madi is using the name Thunderbird in support of Circle High School and Towanda in general, since that's the high school's mascot.
"We're looking for the support of the people of the town – the people of Towanda. We're looking to support them. So this is for them and the communities nearby," he said.
Thunderbird is currently hiring cooks and delivery personnel.
