With big names like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams Jr., it’s no surprise that people would be packing the El Dorado Lake for the Dam Music Festival this weekend. Camp sites have been reserved for months and months. Tickets have been selling like crazy.
One family from Wichita, the Ohnmeis familly, may have been one of the most excited. David and his wife Suzanne, along with their four kids, jumped at what they thought was the first chance to book their spot as early as 2016. Of course, when they looked at the schedule and realized the festival was a year away, they patiently waited like so many other people for the online reservations to go up.
David said his family was the second one to nail a reservation in his particular campground area. But this will not be their first time at the lake.
“We love it here,” David said. “We come here every week.”
They had their campground decked out with sponsorships and decorations as they expect to compete and win the Camp Decor contest. There will be three winners from the DMF sites and two winners from the lake campsites. The rules require useage of three items from DMF sponsors as part of the decorations; lake campers must use five items. The winner gets a campsite upgrade, Dam Music Festival 2018 passes and a custom DMF trophy.
Thousands of spectators will be amassing for all the festivities, highlighted by performances from Hank Williams Jr. and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Here’s a full schedule of the events for Saturday, July 29:
