The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention called 2014 a moderately severe flu season, but it was a bad year for middle-aged adults.While there were lower rates of death and outpatient visits, hospitalization rates for ages 50 to 64 were higher than in previous years, according to the CDC.Last year a new flu strain came on, said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
