Third annual event

The Butler County Health Department is hosting their third annual Baby Jubilee on Aug. 8, 2018 in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week.  This community wide Baby Shower will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Butler County Community Building (4H Building) in El Dorado.
Baby Jubilee is a free baby shower and health fair combined into one celebration for mothers, fathers, and grandparents.  Expectant mothers, fathers, grandparents or other support person, as well as those with infants under one, are invited to attend and visit with local venders about the services they provide.
Activities include raffles for items that have been donated, such as a date night, gift cards, car seat, and other items, information/education opportunities, vendor booths, and gifts for mothers, fathers, and grandparents.  Refreshments will also be served.
Aug. 1 -7 has been designated World Breastfeeding Week.  This year’s slogan for World Breastfeeding Week is Breastfeeding: Foundations of Life. World Breastfeeding Week was first celebrated in 1992 and has grown to be celebrated in over 120 countries .  Baby Jubilee is only one of hundreds of events around the world to be celebrated during this week.
Both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) encourage the value of breastfeeding for both mothers and their children.  Both organizations recommend exclusively breastfeeding for the first six months of life and continuing to breastfeed through the first one to two years of baby’s life.
