Technology to help your healthcare

Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital knows how difficult it can be to manage your busy schedule when faced with a personal illness or the care of your loved ones. We listened to your suggestions and now are ready to deliver a low-cost solution conveniently located at the tip of your fingers.
The new eSusanB powered by eVisit allows people to visit a provider via their smartphone, tablet or computer, providing an alternative option that allows you and your family to get back to your normal routine quicker.
Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital began offering eSusanB on Sept. 1.
“Telemedicine is a technology that is the future of providing low cost/high access healthcare to patients in our rural market,” said SBA President and CEO Jim Kirkbride. “We at Susan B. Allen have heard from our customers who desire such technology but with the emphasis of utilizing trusted local providers.”
While a lot of telemedicine companies use global providers, eSusanB will use local providers from the SBA Medical Group, providing that home-town care people want to have.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this innovative service,” said Mark Rooker, SBA Chief Operations and Information Officer. “This is one example of SBA’s new technology benefitting those we serve.”
Melynda Wint had a positive experience using eSusanB during the employee pilot program.
“Our eVisit was really great,” Wint said. “We were able to do it from the comfort of our own home late in the evening when my husband got off work. It was very, very nice for him not to take off work, so having a 7:30 visit was wonderful for him.
“The nurse practitioner was very nice and asked us a few questions to clarify symptoms. She sent prescriptions to the pharmacy for us and we started feeling better soon thereafter! Overall, we were very pleased with how the visit went and feel blessed Susan B. offers such a convenient and immediate way to access healthcare.”
The app is free and the cost of an eVisit is $49 and can be used for a wide range of issues from seasonal allergies and colds to skin conditions and much more. If a prescription is given, it can be sent to the pharmacy of your choice.
There is a one-time enrollment in the service that takes less than five minute and the wait time to see a provider is less than 15 minutes. Patients must be in the state of Kansas at the time of the visit, although the focus for the program will be the extended SBA coverage area.
“We don’t intend to have a telemedicine product that is available to customers outside our extended service area,” Kirkbride said. “This is an enhancement of getting our services out to rural areas in existing coverage areas.”
eSusanB is available 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. For more information, visit http://www.sbamh.com/services_departments/esusanb or you may download the free mobile app from your device’s mobile app store by searching for eSusanB.
