I John 3:2-3

“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”

What is our hope? We know that very little if any hope can be found in this world. Many people search for something that they can be put their hope in. Their search ends with disappointment time after time.

The Apostle John writes that there are three things we can hope in and not be disappointed.

1. We can hope for the soon return of Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself promised that if He left, that He would return. The signs of the time point to the fact that He will return at any time.

2. We will be like Him. That is, this old body will be changed, and we will be given a glorified body. For many of us, we look forward to the time when this temporal dwelling place will be replaced with the permanent dwelling. This old tent is full of holes and needs replacing. When Jesus returns, this old body will be changed in a moment – in the twinkling of an eye.

3. We will see Him face to face. Paul writes that to be absent from this body is to be present with the

Lord. For years, we have read about Jesus, and hearts long to see Him as He is. For every believer, this hope will become a reality in the very near future.

Because we have this sure hope, we purify ourselves. As a bride prepares herself for that moment when she walks down the aisle to meet her groom, so we are to prepare ourselves. Our pattern for holiness is Jesus Christ. We want to be like our future groom – pure and holy. The sure hope of His return motivates us to purify ourselves. Remember, to purify simply means to make oneself ready.

As I say, this is a sure hope that Jesus Christ will return for His church. For every believer, this hope will become a reality in the near future. Have you purified and made yourself ready for His soon coming?
