Free Christmas movie Saturday

Generations of local families  enjoy memories of the Free Christmas Movie, sponsored by the Bisagno Family, and held at the Augusta Theatre.
This year’s event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Augusta Historic Theatre, 523 State St.
Sponsored by the Bisagno family, this annual Augusta tradition will include two a favorite Christmas movies with a 10 minute intermission, free treat bags for the kids and a special visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
D.A. Bisagno and his wife Aline started the Christmas movie tradition in 1931 in the old Isis Theater (located just south of the present Augusta Theatre) and in the 1940s, as the crowds grew, the event took place in both theaters. Sometimes over 1,500 children were in attendance.
D.A. and Aline’s grandchildren, Kay Bisagno Bleckley and Dave Bisagno, along with their families continue to host the annual event.
