The El Dorado Community Concert Association board members and volunteers met Monday evening, April 10, to receive their information notebooks and to Kick Off the 80th (2017-2018) Season Ticket campaign.

President, Lionell Butt, thanked those attending for their commitment to spreading the word about Community Concerts and expressed his enthusiasm about the 80th season of ECCA. Butts said “We believe we have selected four outstanding concerts for our 2017-2018 season. We invite everyone to share in the excitement of these concerts”.

Shirley Longfellow, Membership Secretary and Campaign Chairperson, presented the plans for the campaign.

Peggy Krause assisted Longfellow in presenting video vignettes of the artists for the coming season which include the following shows:

Night & Days starring Kevin Spirtas, Sunday, September 17, 2017 – 3:00 pm.

A 30-year acting veteran, best known for Broadway appearances and NBC’s daytime drama, Days of Our Lives, Spirtas sings familiar Broadway songs and shares stories of his career on and off set.

Steven Vanhauwaert, Sunday, October 22, 2017 – 3:00 pm.

This Belgium native pianist’s solo repertoire consists of works by Schumann, Schubert, Liszt, Chopin and Debussy. It is his passion for the works and his performance that sets him apart.

The Quebe Sisters, Saturday, February 17, 2018 – 7:00 pm.

Triple-threat fiddle champions performing authentic Western Swing and vintage country music resembling Bob Wills and Riders in the Sky.

Two On Tap, Thursday, March 15, 2018 – 7:00 pm.

The subscription drive and early-bird bonus will end April 30. After that time all tickets, except student, will increase by $5.

ECCA volunteers are: Joan Clark, Alice Farmer, Lou Harms, Amy Nickels, Susan Zieman, Ralph and Lois Fairman, Steve and Beverly Love. Board members are: Lionell Butts, Shirley Longfellow, Carolyn Dwire, Teresa Bachman, Phil and Sheila Johnson, Jeff and Tressa Eastman, Danny and Sharon Guthrie, Brent and Starlene Nearhood, Connie Darnell, Peggy Krause, and Gerald Watson.

The Season Ticket drive is held at this time of the year because assembling the audience before committing to the concerts is necessary to assure that funds will be available to pay the artists. Donor funds are solicited from generous businesses and individuals to pay local production costs. Contributions, above the value of Season Tickets, are tax deductible.

ECCA is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, which has committed itself to enriching the cultural life of the community for 80 years. ECCA concerts are the best entertainment bargain to be found. In addition to the four excellent programs scheduled for El Dorado, Season Ticket holders may attend concerts in Topeka, Chanute, Great Bend, Garden City, Kansas and Ponca City, Oklahoma by reciprocal agreement.

All concerts are held at the El Dorado High School Auditorium, 401 McCollum Rd., which is handicapped accessible and equipped with individual hearing devices for the hearing impaired. Shuttle service is available from the parking lot to the auditorium.
