  • An abandoned water well plugging demonstration is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.  Sept. 10 at 611 N. Topeka in El Dorado.
Kansas law defines an abandoned water well as one that has not been used during the last two years, is in such disrepair it cannot be used or it poses a groundwater contamination hazard.
The demonstration will show proper plugging procedure.
A properly plugged well restores the protective barrier around the well to minimize groundwater contamination, removes the safety hazard, restores stability to the land surface and eliminates liability exposure to the landowner.
