Augusta’s volleyball had a rough draw to start its preseason tournament at the Early Bird Invitational in Winfield Saturday.

The Orioles lost in straight sets to Andale and Conway Springs, the teams that finished with the top two records. The Orioles then lost a tough three-set match to Wichita Trinity 23-25, 25-22, 22-25.

But in the second session of matches, the Orioles won two of three matches to finish with a 2-4 record overall.

The Orioles first beat Collegiate with ease, 25-17, 25-18. They then took a big loss to Chanute in two sets (25-14, 25-16) before finishing off the day with a 25-19, 25-17 victory against Mulvane.

The El Dorado volleyball team also went 2-4 on the day. The Wildcats also had a tough opponent in their opening match as Chanute beat them 25-14, 25-22. El Dorado then got a win against Mulvane. After two closer sets, El Dorado blew it open in the third set for a 25-20, 19-25, 25-11 victory. El Dorado then lost a close three-set match to Ark City.

The Wildcats started the second session with a 26-24, 22-25, 25-22 win against Wellington before they lost to Conway Springs (25-18, 25-14) and Andale (22-25, 25-16, 25-21).
