Edwin Leon Barney, 89, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014

Edwin Leon Barney, 89, widower of Dolores Lyvonne (Robertson) Barney,  passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center in Richmond.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014,  at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory in Staunton, Va.  A graveside service follow at 11 a.m., in Oaklawn Memory Gardens with Pastor John Ward officiating.
Mr. Barney was born on April 16, 1925 in Tonkawa, Okla., the son of the late William Irvan and Julia June (Reed) Barney.
“Barney” had a strong work ethic, beginning work at the young age of 12 to support his mother and younger siblings. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and was retired from Colonial Pipe Line Company in Operations. Mr. Barney was a history buff, enjoyed cruises with his wife, and he liked to travel and be the tour guide for the family anytime they visited Virginia.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Mr. Barney was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Beckham.
Survivors include: daughter, Joyce M. Barney and her companion Roger Ryder of Staunton; son, John William Barney and his wife Carol of Richmond; step- granddaughter, Diane Sandridge; sister, Lena Marie Waltman of El Dorado; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Robertson and wife Pat of Leon, and Dwight Beckham of Hesston; a number of nieces and nephews.
