The free family KidzFest is now an annual event
Because KidzFest El Dorado last January received such a positive response, organizers are planning to schedule it as an annual community event. A free family activity, KidzFest El Dorado is set for Jan. 12 at the Butler County Community Building.
During KidzFest, El Dorado families visit dozens of booths that offer games, arts and crafts, prizes, exhibits and more. It’s also an opportunity for families to learn about community resources for the healthy development of their children.
KidzFest 2014 was led by Vision 2020 and community partners: EduCare Center at Butler Community College, Butler County Health Department, Child Start Head Start, City of El Dorado, El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, El Dorado Public Schools-USD 490, El Dorado Youth Commission, Kids Need 2 Eat, K-State Research & Extension Office: Butler County, Leadership Butler, Mid-Kansas Community Action Program (Mid-Kansas CAP), Partners in Education Foundation of El Dorado (PIE) and Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. The presenting sponsor was Nabholz Construction Services.
Community businesses and programs hosted 40 booths that made the event a success. Information about parenting, mentoring and support groups, special needs, health and nutrition, crisis services, and child care and preschools was shared in fun, family-friendly ways. A complete list of booth hosts is on the KidzFest webpage at www.360ElDorado.com.
Monthly planning meetings to organize KidzFest 2015 begin later this month. The number of booth hosts will be expanded, and other attractions added.
ICI, Inc. in El Dorado will be the 2015 presenting sponsor.
In addition, the 2014 El Dorado Prairie Port Fund has awarded a grant to assist with organizing expenses.
