  • Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital announced the Susan B. Allen Clinic – Augusta, a family medicine medical office, will be opening on Sept. 2 at the SBA Immediate Care facility, on west 7th Street in Augusta.
Steve Bland, PA, will serve as the medical provider under the physician supervision of Dr. Ruben Garcia and Dr. Jason Brunton, hHospitalists with Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.  Bland, along with Jody Link, RN; Mary Lynn Leedy, MA; and Julia Aitchison, RT(R)(ARRT) – who were all with the Via Christi Clinic – have joined the SBA Clinic and will begin seeing patients at the SBA Clinic - Augusta.
Bland has been providing care to area residents since 1975 when he joined the family practice office of Dr. Jim Barber and Dr. Dale Anderson. At that time, the practice was in the Plaza shopping center next to the Morgan Drug Store. The practice moved to the Josephine Street location  to provide more space for the providers and their patients.  When Anderson and Barber were preparing for retirement, they sold their practice to the Wichita Clinic, which was then purchased by Via Christi. Bland stayed through all the changes because he loves Augusta as a community and home, and also because he feels connected to his patients.
“Augusta is my home.  My wife and I enjoy living here and we’ve made a lot of friends in the community through the years,” said Bland. “When the announcement was made that the office was closing, and Susan B. Allen called and proposed the opening of this new practice, I felt like it was a good move for me, as well as for many of my patients. I think it’s such a great thing that Susan B. Allen also hired the staff I’ve worked with for many years.  It should make for a smooth transition for the patients to come see us at the new location.  And, if you haven’t been in the new Susan B. Allen Clinic building yet, it’s a beautiful facility which is going to be a great place to work and for our patients to receive care.”
“Patients who have been seeing Mr. Bland through the years just simply need to call the office to schedule an appointment, and we will take care of having their records transferred back to us,” said Alex Haines, SBA Medical Practice director.  “We’ve been very pleased with how well Via Christi has worked with us through this transition, and we think it will be a very smooth transition for patients.”
The Susan B. Allen Clinic, as well as the SBA Immediate Care clinic, are part of the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital electronic medical record system.  If a patient visits the Immediate Care clinic on the weekend, and then needs to have follow-up care provided either through the Susan B. Allen Clinic or at the hospital, providers will have access to all of the patient’s medical information, including lab results, imaging results, and prescription information adding to the efficiency and safety of the care provided.
