Mayor Williams headed to Topeka

Augusta Mayor Kristey Williams discussed the timeline of her departure with the Augusta Progress Inc. Board of Directors Wednesday morning.
Initially, Williams – who recently won the House District 77 election - had planned to leave the governing body in January. However, she has decided to resign as mayor near the end of November to allow her to participate in legislative activities in December. By state statute, when Williams resigns, City Council President Matt Childers will leave his Ward One seat and become mayor. The governing body will then be tasked with replacing Childers at the next meeting after the vacancy occurs.
