Susan Calbeck, age 60, died July 30, 2014 in Wichita. She was born March 10, 1954, in Pratt, to Jack and Freida (Goodman) Calbeck.
She was raised in Pratt and attended Pratt High School, where she excelled at music and tennis. She graduated from Kansas University in 1976 with a degree in journalism. She was employed by the Pratt Tribune as news editor before moving to Wichita, where she worked in corporate communications for Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems for 25 years.
She enjoyed photography and travel, and often combined the two, creating in unique photo illustrations for family and friends. She created slideshow music videos for friends’ special occasions and for the PHS class of 1972. A musician, she played the piano and trumpet, and occasionally traveled to Dixieland jazz festivals to hear her favorite music and bands. She was one of the first female members of the University of Kansas Marching Band.
She is survived by a brother, John (Kari) Calbeck, Topeka; niece, Katie Calbeck, Olathe; nephew, Matt Calbeck, Lawrence; aunt, Vera Goodman, Wichita; and many cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday Aug. 2, at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary, Pratt, followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt. Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests gifts to the Humane Society or the Pratt High School 2022 Scholarship Fund.
