Palmer Ranch hosted two summer camp sessions
Summer camp at Palmer Ranch, located just west of Augusta, is much more than learning riding skills.
In addition to learning riding techniques, campers learned the basics of horsemanship, including feeding, stall care, hoof care, vet care, grooming and safety around horses.
Nineteen campers, ranging in age 6 to 13, attended the second summer camp session at Palmer Ranch, which concluded on Friday.
“We had a farrier visit who explained about hoof care and shoes. A Purina nutritionist came one day and spoke about hay and grain. On another day, a vet visited and instructed on taking a horse’s vital signs, such as pulse and temperature,” camp instructor and ranch trainer Jessica Humbargar said.
Humbargar also advised another favorite activity of the campers was having the opportunity to spend some time creating paintings of the horses.
Palmer Ranch, 9718 SW Highway 54, Augusta, offers training and riding lessons year-round, in addition to safe and secure boarding for horses. Visit: palmerranchinc.com.
